The Monarch Butterfly is threatened throughout all its range...in Mexico by illegal logging near their overwintering grounds which is creating catastrophic changes in the local climate...and in Ontario by legal bans on Milkweed, being included in the Noxious Weeds Act...the fact that a native plant can be so openly proscribed betrays an obsolete former paradigm desperatley in need of updating. The legal prohibition of the indigenous plant species Milkweed has the same effect on Monarch Butterflies as a similar legal prohibition of bamboo in Panda country would, or eucalyptus in koala country...
YOU CAN HELP!!! the Monarch Butterfly...if you live in Ontario write to your local MPP expressing your concerns...everyone can also write to Ontario's Premier, Dalton McGuinty
Our compassionate action now will create a positive future for all life...

One of the very first acts in 2001 by the newly elected Premier of British Columbia was to bring back the murdering of Grizzly Bears for 'sport'. This cruel and heartless attack on one of nature's most magnificent animals is an environmental crime of the same order as whaling. It has now resulted in orphaned cubs, slaughtered females and a the continuing slaughter of an annual hunt. Please join me in letting Gordon Campbell, BC Premier, know of your views on this matter.
